Who: Mira Labs, Inc.
When: June 2019

We were initially approached by Mira Labs to help them define a roadmap for their embedded systems organization. We explored their current needs and long-term goals and translated that information into an ideal “roles and responsibilities” for the embedded systems team, as well as a hiring roadmap.

In order to assist the team in filling these roles, we also provided job descriptions and “hiring guides” for two immediate hires. The hiring guides provide a detailed playbook for selecting and qualifying candidates. Information included:

  • The scope of the position
  • Suggested job post titles
  • Reporting structure
  • Responsibilities
  • Required & Preferred qualifications
  • Keywords to use in the job description and for filtering resumes
  • Qualification standards for the candidate
  • Interview playbook, including:
    • Recommended interview panel makeup
    • Lighting question bank
    • Freeform question bank
    • Detailed questions with answers and evaluation criteria, focusing on a mix of technical, cross-functional, teamwork, and project management as dictated by the role & responsibilities.

Because Mira was a startup, we helped them overhaul their interview process and provided an interview strategy guide. The document described:

  • Interview types (screen, technical, cross-functional, culture/team fit) and sample questions for each type
  • A standard interview process, which was a playbook of all of the steps from resume screening to informing the candidate of the team’s decision.
  • Guidance on selecting interview panels and interview types
  • Selecting interview questions
  • Guidelines for interviewers
  • Our recommended interview feedback form.
